
Gabriel Cazes is an acclaimed musician and artist.
He is a composer, pianist, and master of multiple instruments, which he incorporates into his diverse range of compositions and performances.
His music has laid at the heart of numerous theatrical productions performed in some of Europe’s greatest theaters.
For nearly a decade, Gabriel Cazes has worked closely with Icelandic director Thorleifur Örn Arnarsson. Their collaboration and synergy have led to many celebrated works and several awards, including Best Foreign Play (Erbil, Iraq, 2006) and Best Staging of the Year (Germany, 2017).
Their work includes adaptations of Bertolt Brecht’s Mutter Courage, Molière’s Tartuffe, and Die Edda, inspired by the great Nordic sagas. In that same year, they also collaborated on the highly acclaimed play An Odyssey. Their partnership extends to numerous interpretations of William Shakespeare, including King Lear, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Much Ado About Nothing.
In 2023, their creative partnership continued with two major productions: Sturm (inspired by Shakespeare) and Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen, both staged at the Burgtheater Vienna.
In 2025, Gabriel unveiled his latest creation, Killing Carmen, written in collaboration with Nils Strunk and Lukas Schrenk for the Volksoper Vienna. Premiering on October 1st, 2025, the piece marks a bold fusion of music and theatre,
with Gabriel performing live on stage while also directing the musical dimension of the production.
Many of these stage performances are carried by a strong amalgamation of sounds, using unexpected items as musical resources. As both composer and conductor, Gabriel Cazes creates a unique symphonic world, drawing out exceptional performances and redefining the boundaries of theatrical music.
Beyond the stage, Gabriel composed the original score for a 61-minute Ken Loach documentary directed by French filmmaker Pierre Chassagneux in 2023, showcasing his ability to blend emotion and storytelling through sound.
He has also created musical compositions for major luxury brands, including Cartier, Alaïa, and Audemars Piguet, merging refined aesthetics with his distinctive sonic identity.
Beside his theatrical carrer Gabriel is the frontman of the rock band We-Are-Z, which he founded with bass player Marc Arciero. Their debut album Animal was released in 2017, followed by tours in England, France, and Russia.
Gabriel Cazes has lived, worked, and recorded in New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, Barcelona, and Berlin.
